OverviewProject Bamboo is a Mellon-funded planning project to explore "technology services for the Arts and Humanities". Over 18 months Project Bamboo will build a community of academic institutions with a shared vision of technology to serve and transform scholarship in the Arts and Humanities. The community will pursue funded projects to implement those services the community identifies as priorities. Involvement is in the strategic interest of the University of Arizona. Project Bamboo will advance research and will form collaborations with peer institutions in fields that span our academic interests from Arts and Humanities to Computer, Information and Library Science. Our effort is supported by the College of Fine Arts (CFA), College of Humanities (COH) and College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) as well as by the University Information Technology Services (UITS) department. In a meeting between Ed Donnerstein (Dean, SBS), Michele Norin (CIO, UA), Maurice Sevigny (Dean, CFA) and Mary Wildner-Basset (Interim Dean, COH) on July 16, 2008 it was determined that the UA benefits from the cross-discipline collaboration proposed by Bamboo. A team to sustain that collaboration should be formed with an initial goal to apply for participation in Project Bamboo. We are actively seeking participants for a team to discuss cyberinfrastructure for the Arts and Humanities which will shape our involvement with Project Bamboo. We are inviting interested UA researchers to join us in conversation to explore Project Bamboo and to identify strategic opportunities to advance UA scholarship.
